API pricing in USD

The business API has a separate prepaid USD balance. Text usage is metered by tokens; media uses fixed model-specific prices. Jobs reserve funds at submission and settle when background processing reaches a terminal state.

How billing works

Generation responses expose final usage, while media entries in the model catalog expose their current fixed prices—there is no separate hidden API surcharge.

Text

Metered

Input and output tokens are charged at the selected model rate.

Images

Per request

Text-to-image and reference edits can have different fixed request prices, regardless of output count.

Video

Per job

Duration and resolution select an exact price row.

Speech

Per 1,000 characters

Characters are billed against the published USD rate.

Music

Per request

One charged request returns two song variants.

Which balance is charged

API billing is separate from Byta app credits

Every billable request deducts USD from the API account that owns the key. Consumer daily and permanent credits cannot be used by the business API, so automated API usage cannot farm or drain app allowances. Add funds in the API Console.

Charge formula

The final amount is calculated in USD micros from actual token usage. The account must have enough spendable API balance to reserve the request.
(input tokens × input USD/1M + output tokens × output USD/1M) ÷ 1,000,000

Web search usage

Enabling web_search can add search context to the metered input. Final usage in the response is the source of truth for the charged text request.

Image pricing

USD is charged per completed image.

Reservations, settlement, and retries

Media submission is fast because billing and generation continue against a durable job record.

Always send an Idempotency-Key

Use one unique key per logical image or video request. Reuse it only when retrying that same request after a timeout or transport error.

Moderated requests

Model-specific charging

Most failures release the hold, but moderation errors may still be charged for some models when provider-side billable work already occurred. Model-specific moderation billing policy is not disclosed. Read the terminal job'serror and creditsCharged fields for the final result and API Console activity for the authoritative charge.
